Welcome to the brand new SurrealPSD photoshop tutorial website! This is a project that I have nurtured for around two years, and within the past week have made it a reality. So… What makes this site different from any other tutorial site that we see online? Good question. SurrealPSD aims to bring exciting and unique tutorials with a tight focus on creative digital-art techniques; here you will find plenty of Horror, Sci Fi and Fantasy walkthroughs – ideal for those who like to push the limits of the software.

Aside from step by step guides, the site will promote the concept of the Photoshop ‘core-skills’ – essential techniques required for succesful photo manipulation, providing a strong foundation for beginner and intermediate users. Once the core skills are in place, users can then go on to innovate and develop their own styles and techniques, and that is where the true beauty of Photoshop lies!

Another important facet of SurrealPSD will be articles focusing on natural media techniques that transfer to digital and are essential for creating engaging, believable pieces of work. Topics such as lighting, ambience, colour and depth perception will be explored, as more often than not, the most succesful digital artists are those who also have a firm grasp on more traditional artistic methods. Articles about photomanipulation in general and irreverent topics that would interest digital artists will be submitted alongside the geeky stuff as well!

My aim is to rope in some of the best DeviantArt photo manipulators for interviews, articles and hopefully a tutorial or two some time in the near future. It’s a real vibrant community over there, and is the stomping ground for many of the best in the business.
