Cinematic Sharpening – Photoshop Video Tutorial
18Jun
Everyone has their little ‘go-to’ tricks in a workflow, and this one has been a firm favourite of mine for a couple of years now. It’s a nice simple technique for adding a touch of severity and ‘drama’ to a piece, when you’ve finished up – and want to share online or send to the client / print. High Pass Filter and Unsharp Mask are the players in this one, head on to the video to get the lowdown:

This was recorded in the new audio environment Ive been working on (like.. forever!). Let me know what you think, and tell your friends – if these videos get a good response, I’ll do lots more.

Awesome!
That’s exactly how I finish some of my pieces, that need a final punch to it.
Very well explained and the audio sounds perfect!
Keep the tutorials coming. I always learn something new (btw, I never knew this awesome shortcut to create a merged layeron top, without duplicating the entire layer set and merge it by hand)

Thanks Caro!! Glad even pros like you can pick up techniques with these walkthroughs
You have to sind the shortcut song to me, or I won’t recall it!
I was merging the wrong way the whole time, thanks for the tip, bud!
My pleasure mate!
Awesome to see that you use this technique as well! I always do an unsharp mask, but I haven’t done the highpass before. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the comment mate, glad you found it useful
Yes, more of these, brah. I always use the high-pass technique, but never thought about coupling it w/unsharp mask. Your videos are always spot-on, and I’d love to see more of ‘em.
